"The Ending"
Paris Peace Accord
- The Paris Peace Accord was signed in 1973 and was followed by the final withdrawal of American troops left in Vietnam.
- The terms were called for a final cease in fire in the South, but allowed North to keep the territory they captured.
- Released U.S. captured prisoners of war.
South Vietnam loses
- 1974 situation worsened with South Vietnam. Without American troops backing them up they stood very little chance against the North.
- With the suprise attack on the North's advantage they finally captured Saigon.
- 1975 South Vietnam surrendered, finally ending the war.
Casulties
- 58,119 Americans died and 153,303 wounded, and 1,948 missing.
- Republic of Vietnam estimated at 230,000 killed, and 1,169,763 wounded.
- Combined the North Vietnamese and the Viet Cong suffered 1,100,000 killed, and unknown number wounded.
- All together it is estimated that 2 to 4 million Vietnamese civilians were killed during the war.
